In the ever-evolving landscape of IT infrastructure, businesses need reliable and
efficient solutions to meet their growing demands. Bielomatik, a leader in
engineering, sought to enhance their virtualization environment, leading them to partner
with xcware for a transformative migration. Here's how we replaced their VMware
infrastructure with our innovative xcware platform.
The Challenge: A Heavy VMware Dependency
Bielomatik had been utilizing VMware to virtualize approximately 60 databases,
160 office desktop machines, and 30+ CAD/CAE machines for engineering. Their virtual
desktops were delivered using VMware Horizon, a setup that, while functional, had
turned into a licensing nightmare since Broadcom acquired VMware
With 11 high-performance servers at their disposal—including one untouched Oracle DB
appliance and three equipped with Nvidia RTX 6000 passive GPU cards—it was evident
that Bielomatik needed a solution capable of maximizing this hardware's potential
while improving performance and minimizing licensing costs.
The Solution: Transitioning to xcware Platform
To address these challenges, we replaced 10 of Bielomatik servers with Debian
12-based Sky Nodes. Our approach involved a per-server conversion, allowing for a
seamless migration without disrupting ongoing operations. The legacy VMware Horizon
server was replaced with Vista Sessions, empowering users to access their virtual
desktops through the Vista Connect client.
Performance Improvements and Cost Savings
The results were remarkable. The graphic-intensive CAD/CAE machines not only
maintained their original hardware capabilities but significantly outperformed the
previous VMware Horizon solution in terms of quality. Engineers were particularly
thrilled with the enhanced 3D mouse interaction and overall picture quality, which
exceeded their expectations and improved their workflow. Additionally, Bielomatik
was able to reduce their virtualization licensing costs by up to 90%, paying only a
fraction of what they previously spent on VMware Environment and Horizon CC
licenses.
Conclusion: A Successful Partnership
The transition from VMware to xcware has transformed how
Bielomatik operates. With enhanced performance, improved user satisfaction, and a more
efficient virtualization environment, they are now better positioned to tackle future
challenges and embrace new opportunities in engineering and design.
